Build Your Prayer Life
“The Lord’s Prayer”
Matthew 6: 9-13
The following is an outline model of the Lord’s prayer to help guide you into a daily routine of prayer and will cover all the essential parts of the prayer.
Having a daily framework, routine or guideline to pray is not the same as “repetitious prayer” as described in Matthew Chapter 6. Rather, it is a checklist, or reminder, if you will, of all the essential prayer needs.
It keeps you focused, protected and spiritually and physically alive!
Jesus Told Us to Pray like This:
Matthew 6:9 – Our Father which art in heaven
Need 1 -The Paternal Need:
Your first need is to identify with the Father! Realize that your father has your best interest in mind. Don’t project any images from your earthly father onto your heavenly Father. Everything you ever wanted in a father is in The Father! Know him as your Father! He loves you and wants all the best for you.
In the beginning of your prayer, declare that “I come into the presence of you Father…” thru the “blood of Jesus.” It is the blood of Jesus that saved you from your sin and it is the blood of Jesus that gives you authority to enter into the presence of God! Realize the power of the blood!
Matthew 6:9 – Hallowed Be Thy Name
Need 2 – The Praise Need
Your spirit needs to praise the Lord! Hallow his name. In the spirit realm (world) this opens the doors into his presence! If you want him to hear your words, THEN JUST PRAISE HIM!
Also note that the word hallowed means not only “holy,” but also healing. In other words, healing be thy Name!
As you praise him honor his names(one after another), for he is:
- Jehovah who sanctifies us (Holiness):
My sanctifier! You purify me andi separate me! I recognize your statutes and I’m dedicated to you! Your Son is my high priest, sanctification occasion! I’m redeemed through his shed blood! Through Christ, I’m spotless and I live Holy!
- Jehovah who is my righteousness:
My righteousness! You are the one who always makes it right! You render justice! You declare innocence! You acquit me! You are perfect and righteous and do not overlook guilt You measure and weigh, and you always do what’s right! You have given me Jesus to take away my sin and guilt – He has paid the price for me! I’m accepted in your sight! I’m cleansed by the blood of Christ!
- Jehovah who is peace
My peace! My peace who is always with me! You still my heart and soul, and given me divine rest! I am wholly reconciled to you! Through Christ, you have paid my debts and my trust and obedience are to you! Jesus, the Prince of peace, lives in me and his peace rules my heart!
- Jehovah who is your provider:
My provider! You are the one who makes provision for me! You foresee all my needs and have provided redemption for me! Thank you for sending your Son! In Christ, you always provide for me!
- Jehovah who is your healer:
My healer! You are the one who heals my spirit, soul, and body! You restore me! You cure me! You take all diseases away from me! By the stripes of Christ’s back, I’m healed – spirit, soul, and body!
- Jehovah who is your banner of love:
My banner! You are the one who delivers and saves me! You give me victory! You do miracles! I hold you high, for the world to see! Your Son is my banner of redemption! You leave me in your triumph, through Christ Jesus! You are my banner of love!
- Jehovah who is your shepherd:
My shepherd! You guide me with love and correct me with kindness! You are my companion and my friend. You cherish me! You lead me! You instruct me and call me by my name! Jesus is my good shepherd, I know his voice and answer when he calls. Thank you for being with me day and night, caring for my soul. I choose to serve you and live in the shadow of your great love!
Matthew 6:10 – Thy Kingdom Come, Your Will Be Done
Need 3 – The Priority Need
This part of the prayer will help keep your life in proper perspective. It will help you to prioritize your responsibilities.
Make a pledge to the Father that you will “seek first his kingdom and all his righteousness!
Pray for His will and order in the following:
- your life
- your church
- your city
- your state
- your nation (President)
- the world.
Example: “Father, I pray for your will in my life. That your will be done in my life today, on my job, in my family and relationships, and in every decision and circumstance…
Matthew 6:11 – Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread
Need 4 – This Is the Provision Need
Pray for your daily spiritual and physical bread. Live for today. Don’t let the troubles of tomorrow worry you. Focus on how you can be a light of Jesus to the world today! One word of God from you, one act of love of God from you, can change the life of someone forever!
Also pray for the needs of your family, church, your pastor, ministries you support. Also make a practice to be faithful in your giving.
Matthew 6:12 – Forgive Us Our Debt As We Forgive Our Debtors
Need 5 – The Pardon Need
This part of the prayer is a daily routine that will cleanse you spiritually. If you can keep a daily forgiving spirit, you will be free!
Free to hear God’s voice! Free to be obedient to his word! Free to love others! Free to love yourself!
If you can’t forgive, you can’t be forgiven! Remember, what you give is what you will get back! If you give out “unforgiveness” you will receive back unforgiveness. Furthermore, Jesus said, “if you cannot forgive, my father in heaven cannot forgive you.”
I always ask God to forgive me of my sins against (1) Him, (2) my own body (3) my sins against others, (4) and forgive those who sin against me.
It is also a good practice to forgive those who sin against you before you ask for your own forgiveness! Because, Jesus said, “forgive, so the new can be forgiven…”
Matthew 6:13 – Lead us not into Temptation but deliver us from the evil one.
Need 6 — The Power Need
This part of the prayer is your power and your protection. A daily routine of prayer for power and protection will keep you aware of your enemy and the weapons you have against him.
Always prayerfully, spiritually, and mentally put on your full armor of God. Remember that some of these weapons must be developed. To “gird your loins with truth” you have to spend some time putting truth in your mind.
Otherwise, in the time of need you will have no weapon of truth to draw from!
- Gird your loins with truth
- Put on the breastplate of righteousness
- Shod your feet with the preparation of the Gospel of peace
- Take up the shield of Faith
- Put on the helmet of salvation
- Take the sword of the spirit.
When you do this part of the prayer visualize yourself putting on each part of your armor.
Example: “I gird my loins with truth because I have God’s truth, his truth is within me and I will not be deceived!”
Also remember Paul the apostle encourages us to be in prayer at all times!
Matthew 6:13 – For It Is Your Kingdom, Your Power, Your Glory
Need 7 – Perseverance
Just as you started your prayer with praise, close with praise. If you continue to praise the Lord, your prayer stays activated during your day.
Why?
Praise is the sign that your prayers give testimony to what you believe!
This activates the power of the Holy Spirit to bring God’s word to pass!
Praise is a sign that you have victory, that you believe that you possess what you pray for, that you believe what you haven’t seen with your eyes, but rather, you believe with your heart in God’s word to come to pass.
In other words, “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, ON THE EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN!”
OK, soldier of God, you are ready to take Kingdom territory and spread the good news that Jesus Christ is Lord!
